Verdell A. Northup, 78 of Montgomery, born April 29, 1923, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 9, 2001. She had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for more than 12 years.
    Verdell met Dean some 60 years ago and she wrote letters to him every day for 3 years while he served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. She was an avid member of the School District #131 PTA, serving at Center School, Brady School, Waldo and East Aurora High School for some 14 years. Dean and Verdell were active square dancers for 23 years and attended First Presbyterian Church in Aurora until September of 1998 when Verdell become home bound.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Gertrude Damschen; one sister, Vernice (Ernest) Keierleber; and one brother Richard Damschen.
    Survivors include her loving husband, Dean Northup of almost 56 years of Montgomery, one son, Donald (Sharon) Northup of Aurora; one daughter, Linda (Terry) Smith of Montgomery; four granddaughters, Tami (Justin) Butler of Somonauk, IL, Heather (Chad) Johnson of Aurora, Dawn Brauer of Montgomery, and Holly (Edward) Fowler of Aurora; and three great-grandchildren, Justin, Johnny, and Shayla Butler of Somonauk, IL; one sister-in-law Geri Damschen of Aurora; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
    Visitation will be held on Friday, May 11, 2001 from 4 to 8 PM at the Dieterle Memorial home 1120 S. Broadway Montgomery.
    Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the Dieterle Memorial home with the Rev. Robert Urquhart officiating.
    Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Montgomery.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimers Research Foundation, 4709 Golf Rd., Suite 1015 Skokie, IL. 60076.
    Following graveside services a luncheon will be served in the community room of Dieterle Memorial home. For further information please call 630-897-1196 or
