Death of Charles Peterson as a result of a Drunken Brawl.

Charles Peterson, who is quite well known in Nunda, as he married a daughter of Peter Democker, died Sunday as the result of a drunken brawl on the streets of Mt. Morris late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. The Mt. Morris correspondent of the Rochester Democrat gives the following report:

MT. MORRIS, N. Y., June 20th. About 1 o'clock this morning Lester Landon and Samuel Feathers were walking up Chapel street on their way home, when they were overtaken by Fred Cassidy and Charles Peterson, who were in a wagon. Landon and Peterson engaged in a fight, in which the latter was worsted. He was helped up and into the wagon and drove home with Cassidy, who is said to have been badly intoxicated.

This morning Peterson was found in tho wagon at Cassidy's house in an unconscious condition, and he died at 1 o'clock today. He had several bad cuts on his head. Landon has been arrested. He says that Peterson was the agressor in the altercation, striking him on the head first with a club. He claims that he fought Peterson in self defense, and that he did not use anything but his fists. Landon's home is at Hemlock Lake. He is a young man, married, but dose not live with his wife. He has been working here as a farm hand for Chester White. Peterson was a dissipated and quarrelsome fellow. Coroner Dodge has charge of the case and will hold an inquest.
