Johnie Norris Bunch was born 5 September 1879 in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas to John A Norris [1827-1879] born in South Carolina and Martha J Ingram {1835-ca 1910] born in Alabama. When she was a few months old, her father who was the city marshal of Sulphur Springs, Texas was killed in the line of duty on 9 October 1879 when he was shot through a window by a man whose brother it was reported had been shot by the Marshal while resisting arrest earlier. John Norris left a widow and several minor children, mostly girls. How the family survived in the following years is unknown, but in the period 1893, Martha J Norris moved with her children to Dallas, Texas where she found jobs for them all. In 1894, Johnie was a saleslady and living with her mother at 173 Crutchfield Street. By 1895 she had married Theodore C Bunch who lived nearby at 159 Crutchfield Street. Johnie and T C were living in Bowie, Montague County, Texas in the 1900 census where T C had a job as a traveling salesman. Four known children were born to this marriage: Norris Eugene Bunch [1897-1897 in Dallas, Jimmie Louise Bunch [1898-1976], Theo Bell Bunch [1901-1973] and Norris Elder Bunch [1902-1965]. Theodore C Bunch who was called T C had a variety of jobs during their marriage. He worked as a route manager for the Dallas Morning News, then was a clerk and salesman for a drug company. At one time he operated his own business in Handley Texas and lived in nearby Arlington, but this business failed and he returned to being a traveling salesman for a drug Company in Ft Worth, Texas where the family lived. For a couple or three years, Johnie's mother Martha lived with the family. However, in March 1909 T C returned from a trip on the road sick, and had to undergo appendicitis surgery in a Ft Worth hospital. Due to infection complications he passed away. His remains were transported back to Dallas on a train and he was buried in the family plot in Oakland Cemetery near where his mother would be buried years later. Johnie sent the two girls to live with one of her sisters in California and apparently kept the young son with her. She worked in Dallas for a year as a clerk for the W A Green Company, then moved to California to join her sisters who lived there. Her mother Martha also joined the family there. By 1920 Johnie was living in Los Angeles and teaching school. In the 1930 census she was still a school teacher and still living in Los Angeles. In 1931 she was living in Alhambra, California and her divorced son was living with her. She died 8 November 1955 in Ventura, Los Angeles, California. Her three surviving children in 1909 moved to California and grew up and made their lives there.
