John Warren Norris of Carlisle, died Saturday February 25, 2012 at The Bridges at Bent Creek, Mechanicsburg. He was 78.
Born March 28, 1933 in Clearfield, PA, he was the son of the late Isaac Bruce Norris and Ruth E. Kephart Norris.
Mr. Norris received his Bachelors degree from Dickinson College and his Masters from Shippensburg University. He was a History teacher in the Carlisle Area School District, retiring after 38 years of service. John was a US Navy Veteran during the Korean War serving on the USS Mt. Olympus. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4057, the Carlisle Band Boosters, and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle. He was also a member and past president of both the Carlisle Lions Club and the Carlisle Area Education Association.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Virginia Sykes of Carlisle, six children: Isaac Bruce Norris and his wife Cindy, Coatesville, PA, William U. Norris and his wife Karen, King of Prussia, Elizabeth Norris, Carlisle, Mary Comitale and her husband James, Carlisle, Ann Hartshorn and her husband Phil, Northfield, NJ and Margaret Finkbeiner and her husband Paul, Carlisle, fourteen grandchildren and a sister, Debbie Cleer, Erie. He was preceded in death by a son, David Andrew Norris and a granddaughter, Grace Erin Comitale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey as celebrant. Viewing will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville PA.
