Dorothy Korman Norford, 83, of Keswick, died on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at a local hospital.
She was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on December 13, 1927, the daughter of the late John Albert Korman and Malissa Bing Korman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Norford; a brother, John Albert Korman Jr.; and her step mother, Mays W. H. Korman.
Mrs. Norford was a retired Executive Secretary for General Electric and member of Preddy's Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Norford was an avid bird and deer watcher and a lover of the mountains and her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Claire Deanne Bradbury and her husband, David, of Greensboro, North Carolina; and one son, Charles Alan Norford and his wife, Robin, of Keswick. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jennifer B. Tear and her husband, Harry Tear III, of Marietta, Georgia, Michael K. Bradbury and his wife, Stephanie, of Raleigh, North Carolina, Amanda L. Norford of Keswick, Charles R. Norford of Newport News, Virginia, and Blake A. Norford of Ruckersville; four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Harry Tear IV of Marietta, Georgia, and Ryan and Caroline Bradbury of Raleigh, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Betty Jean Korman of State College, Pennsylvania; and her longtime canine companion, "Sugar".
A memorial service was conducted Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Preddy's Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Betty Norford officiating. Interment was private.
The family gives thanks to the nursing and therapy staff at the Laurels, and those that cared for her at home, Kathy Allen, Joanne Hall, and Sandy Via.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Preddy's Creek Baptist Church, 4394 Stony Point Road, Barboursville, VA 22923.
