She was born in North Adams on January 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Ralph W. and Naomi L. (Pheulpin) Norcross. She attended Clarksburg schools, and graduated from Drury High School in North Adams in 1949. She had lived in Clarksburg for many years, and in the State of Florida for 25 years, returning to North Adams in 2007.
Mrs. Cahoon last worked as a sales representative at the former Donahue Chevrolet, and its predecessor, Shapiro Chevrolet, in North Adams, until retiring. Earlier, she had worked as a bus driver for J.T. Bus Lines for 26 years, and had also worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams.
She was an active member of the Clarksburg community, and had served as a member of the Board of Selectmen for 20 years. She also served briefly as Chief of Police, and was a member of the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary for many years.
She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, North Adams. While in Florida, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed many hobbies, including camping, canning vegetables, making jams and jellies, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carl W. Cahoon, whom she married on October 27, 1952; two sons, Mark N. Cahoon and his wife, Ginette, of North Adams; and Brian A. Cahoon and his wife, Jean Solares, of Des Moines, Iowa; four Grandchildren, Eric Cahoon of North Adams; Gisel Cahoon of Stephentown, N.Y., Justin Cahoon of La Quinta, Calif., and Cayla Cahoon of Albany, N.Y.; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Murray Norcross, and by a sister, Janet Olsen.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19th, at 3 p.m. in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Rev. Stephen White, Rector of All Saints Episcopal Church, North Adams, will officiate.
Burial will be at a later date in Clarksburg Cemetery.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the service, at the funeral home.
