Florence “Flo” Goebel, 88, of La Grange, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.

Florence Therese “Flo” Goebel was born in Winchester, Texas on November 24, 1926, the daughter of August and Lydia (Jentho) Noack. She was baptized at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Winchester on November 28, 1926, took her confirmation vow there on March 17, 1940, and was joined in marriage there with Albert Gus Goebel on December 21, 1947.

The couple moved to Houston in 1948 where they made their home for more than 40 years in the community of Galena Park. Florence worked in retail sales for more than 30 years, retiring from Sears, Roebuck in March, 1991. While living in Galena Park she was active in the congregation of Peace Lutheran Church as a longtime member of the church choir and Sunday school teacher. Florence and Albert were among the founding members of Peace congregation.

In 1991 Florence and Albert Goebel returned to their hometown, Winchester, and a busy retiree lifestyle. Flo enjoyed singing in the St. Michael’s Lutheran Adult Choir and was a member of the Winchester Area Civic Association. Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church became her church home when, after Albert’s death in 2006, Florence made her home in La Grange.

Flo’s three grandchildren were the true joy of her life and she and Albert took great pleasure in following their high school and college sports accomplishments, cheerleading activities, and dance recitals. A flower bed of blooming snapdragons or a freshly mowed lawn always made her smile; and nothing could top Nana’s freshly baked chocolate chip and icebox cookies.

Survivors include two daughters: Brenda Rainosek and husband, George, of La Grange, Texas and Tracy Fields of San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Mandi Landreth and husband, Tracy, of Houston, Texas; two grandsons: Jerod Fields of Medina, Texas and Cody Fields and wife, Jordan, of Hondo, Texas; also great granddaughter, Whitley Fields of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Marie Schulz and husband, Raymond, of Winchester; niece, Virginia Goebel Yancey and husband, John, of Smithville, Texas; nephew, Garland Goebel and wife, LaRee, of Smithville, Texas; three grandnephews: Kyle Sherman of Lewisville, Texas; Michael Spess and wife, Kristi and Stephen Spess and wife, Cyndy, all of Austin, Texas; and two grandnieces: Ashley (Goebel) Noack and husband, Josh, of Nederland, Texas; and Tiffany (Goebel) Page and husband, Joe, of Paris, Texas.

Florence Goebel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; and sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Harold Imken.

Shannon Del Valle of Smithville, Texas; Lynn Brown of La Grange, Texas; Latrice Kellough of Bastrop, Texas; and Loretta Pelletier of La Grange, Texas were Flo’s team of faithful and skilled “round the clock” caregivers who lovingly tended to her needs alongside the nurses and staff of Hospice Brazos Valley.

Visitation will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 800 N. Franklin, La Grange, Texas. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Serving as Pallbearers: Cody Fields, Jerod Fields, Tracy Landreth, Kyle Sherman, Michael Spess, and Stephen Spess.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Worship Broadcast Fund of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
