Dorothy Sue Crabtree, 77, of Branson West, MO, formerly of Star City and Pine Bluff, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, in her home with family at her side. She was born July 13, 1936 in Star City, the daughter of James Henry and Zuma Beeson Nix.
Dorothy grew up in Star City where she was known as "the miracle baby" due to the fact that she was born at home and only weighed 18 ounces at birth. She was a graduate of Star City High School and received her Bachelor of Science at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Master of Science from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She was a graduate of the Executive Leadership Development Program, Department of Defense. For sixteen years Dorothy worked for the Department of Defense, Pine Bluff Arsenal, retiring in 1999, from Pine Bluff Department of Army. In 2005, she moved from Pine Bluff to Shell Knob, MO to make her home. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob, the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR), American Business Women's Association, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, National Association of Women in Construction and the Christian Women's Association of Southeast Arkansas. She also received the Arkansas Business Woman of the Year, Pine Bluff Arsenal Woman of the Year, Federal Woman of the Year and Woman of the Year for Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
On December 28, 1954, in Star City, she was united in marriage to Clay Dewain Crabtree, who preceded her in death on March 7, 2003. Also, preceding her in death were her parents.
Burial at Leek Cemetery.
