Aunt Sophie was the sister of Anna Esther Nitch Kirkpatrick and wife of R John KirkpatrickSophia Caroline was probably was born on the Nitch homestead on Ligonier Pike in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County, PA. On different documents her date of birth runs from 1885 to 1890. She was the daughter of Peter Nitch and Annie Roydal (many spellings). Sophia Caroline probably lived and worked on the 153-acre farm until she married Richard John Kirkpatrick, the brother of her sister's (Anna Esther) husband (James Joseph Kirkpatrick). The parents of Richard John and James Joseph were William, born in Ontario, Canada, and Mary Hayes, born in Ireland.

Sophia Caroline and Richard John married sometime after 1910 in Michigan. For a time they lived in Ohio, the birthplace of their first son, William Joseph, Sr., in 1915. Sophia Caroline's brother, John Baptist, and family had lived in Cuyoga County, Ohio, for some time. Prior to 1917 they moved to Michigan where their son Robert John was born in 1917 and daughter Helen Ruth in 1923. Richard John worked as a steamfitter in the automobile industry. They made their Michigan home permanent as did Anna Esther and James Joseph and their family.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and siblings Teresa 1861, Theresa 1866, Lizzie 1892, Peter Jr., 1899, Ellen K. (Mrs. Francis E. O'Connor) 1941, John Baptist 1944, Mary Annie (Mrs. Julius Amez-Droz) 1945, Frederica Rachel (Mrs. Richard Henry Worthington) 1946, Adam Albert 1947, Rose (Mrs. Jacob J. Livingston), Anna Esther (Mrs. James Joseph Kirkpatrick) 1954. Surviving at the time of her death was Brother George Nitch.
