MANSFIELD: ALICE BOONE baked much more than sugar, flour and butter in her fabulous cream pies. She added a little bit of her heart, her love and her blessings. All the different flavors - coconut cream, chocolate, lemon meringue complimented the seasons of her life, and her love for the individual tastes of her family and friends.
Described as a Proverbs 31 mother, Alice Boone passed away Sunday morning May 12, 2013 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was 85.
Born Alice Ethel Nipper June 4, 1927 in Upper Sandusky to Luther and Nancy (DeWalt) Nipper, she attended Mansfield Senior High School. During WWII she worked in the office at Westinghouse memorizing codes, and much later, she worked in the Bellville H.W.I. Hardware. Alice had been a longtime member of Newville Baptist Church and only recently became a member of First Wesleyan Church. Her life demonstrated service. Whether she was sewing costumes for the musical productions at Clear Fork High School or volunteering her time with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Alice invested in others. With RSVP she spent countless hours working with The Store and Safety Town. A full-time homemaker, in addition to her dessert pies, Alice made fantastic pot pies, cream puffs and an angel food cake (from scratch) that was out-of-this-world. She enjoyed gardening and was blessed with the talent of playing the piano by ear.
She is survived by her children Patricia Boone of Mansfield, Daniel J. "Dan" (Laurie) Boone of Bellville, Deborah (Bob) Collins of Lexington, Rebekah Landes of Columbus and Barbara (Jeff) Guth of Lexington; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister Roberta Lymburner of Ontario; and cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm "Mike" Boone on February 10, 1996. Also deceased are her grandson Evan Guth; brothers Carl and Robert Nipper and sisters Mary Snyder and Lillian Garn.
The Boone family will receive friends Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation continues Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home, where her funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Pastor Keith Carlisle will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Perrysville.
Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to MedCentral Hospice or First Wesleyan Church to benefit Rahab's Hideaway Mansfield.
