Jazz Musician. A baritone saxophonist , he was associated with such prominent bandleaders as Woody Herman and Stan Kenton during a career which covered six decades. Born in Washington, D.C., he started playing instruments at an early age and was performing with bandleaders Bob Astor and Johnny Bothwell by the age of twenty. Beginning in the 1960's, Nimitz established himself as a much sought-after studio musician. During the 1970's, he was a member of the band Supersax and led his own group The Jack Nimitz Quintet.
