She was born in Hammel, Denmark, the daughter of Wilhelm C. Knudsen and Elisabeth Jensen. Her sister, Mary Valborg (Knudsen) Ronnow is buried close to her. Her brothers, Richard and Hans, are buried at Live Oak Cemetery in Monrovia.
