Carolyn F. Nicklaus, 49, 1717 Brooklyn Rd., Ashton, died yesterday after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 19, 1936 in Davenport, Ia. to Earl E. and Florence L. Houston Barkhurst. She married Robert D. Nicklaus on May 13, 1977 in Oregon.
She was a retired Combined Communication Services production manager after 10 years. She was also a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, Ashton.
Survivors include her husband, of Ashton; five daughters: Elizabeth Ann, of home; Mrs. John (Carol Lynn) Rilley, Oregon; Sandra Kay Laughlin, Oregon; Mrs. Thomas (Rita Jo) Martin, Houston, Tex.; Mrs. Jeffrey (Debra Rae) Spears, Belvidere; two sons: Scott Laughlin, Ashton; and David John, Ashton; one sister: Mrs. Robert (Eleanor) Lee, Omaha, Neb.; two brothers: Earl Barkhurst, Omaha, Neb., and Henry (Red) Barkhurst, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services are on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Dixon, with the Rev. Paul K. Zeman, pastor of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, Ashton, officiating.
Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Dixon. Visitation is on Friday 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the church of the Sauk Valley Hospice.
