Dorothy was born September 11, 1931 in Barren County, Kentucky to Veachel and Mossie(Dennison) Poynter. She was raised and educated in Barren County, eventually finishing high school and attended classes at Cowley College.
She married Wilton Roy Brown, Sr. on August 27, 1949 in Glasgow, KY. Dorothy and Roy had three children; Brenda, Jewel and Wilton Roy Brown, Jr. (Wilt).
She was also know as "Dottie" by many. She was a loving and devoted mother who supported and encouraged her children to love God. She also supported her children through her active involvement with their schooling and school activities.
After the children were raised, Dorothy pursued her dream of performing and singing country western music. She traveled through Texas, Arizona and Alaska performing. She and her sister Jenny had a Saturday morning radio show in Bowling Green, Ky where they played and discussed country music. She also made her own album in Seattle, Wa. in 1978 and was titled "From My Heart to Yours" by Dottie Jean.
Later in life, Dorothy was a foster grandparent for both Winfield and Wichita school districts.
She is survived by Daughters: Brenda and husband Cecil Jacks of Hesston, KS Jewell Ketzler of Aransas Pass, Tx. Son – Wilton Roy and wife Velene Brown of Wichita.
Brother Aaron Poynter and sister in laws Martha Poynter, and Betty Poynter.
Ten grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
