Crossville Chronicle, Cumberland Cty, TN
January 8, 1942

A car accident, fatal to one person, occurred on Hwy 70 west of Crab Orchard on Saturday afternoon when the car driven by Paul Belzung left the highway, turned over 5 or 6 times down a steep embankment. The accident was due to ice and snow on the roadway.
Mrs Belzung, 32, was killed instantly when her neck was broken; she was caught between the back of the front seat and the roof of the car.
Mr Belzung and 10 year old daughter Paula Ann were only slightly injured. They were taken by the west bound Greyhound bus to the office of Dr E W Mitchell in Crossville where first aid was rendered.
It is reported that several cars were standing on the right side of the road when Mr Belzung approached and attempted to pass on the left, but was unable to control the car due to the road conditions. It is estimated he was traveling at about 30 miles per hour.
The funeral was held in Union City. The deceased was the former Elsie Nichols of Union City. Mr Belzung and daughter left Sunday morning by ambulance for Union City via Dickson. Funeral arrangements were delayed due to difficulty in contacting a sister of Mrs Belzung in California.
Mr Belzung and family had been living in Morristown. He is a draftsman for the TVA. They were returning home from a visit with relatives in Fort Smith, Ark.
