Mrs. Belle M. Brown, age 81, of Young Harris, Georgia passed away Monday, February 15, 1999 following a period of declining health. Mrs. Brown was born in Union County, Georgia the daughter of Joseph Porter and Hettie Thomas Nichols. Together with her husband Ernest, Belle owned and operated E.L. Brown's Mercantile and the Young Harris Motel in Young Harris for many years. She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law: Betty and Byron Bledsoe of Marietta, Georgia, Kathy and Cecil Hughes of Young Harris, Georgia, and Sandra and Lynn Gooch of Blairsville, Georgia; her son and daughter in law: Billy Ray and Geraldine Brown of Young Harris, Georgia; two brothers: Lee Nichols of Blairsville, Georgia, and Frank Quince Nichols of Rosewell, Georgia; one sister, Vivian Lance of Blairsville, Georgia; six grandchildren: Belinda Bledsoe, Kristi Conley, Joel Gooch, Kevin Brown, Nicholas and Nathan Hughes, and one great grandchild: Rachel Brown, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband Ernest L. Brown on October 20, 1997 and her grandson Douglas Bledsoe. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 17, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the many Forks Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace Potts and the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Interment was in the Many Forks Cemetery.

Music was provided by: Carolyn Bridges and the Phillips Singers. Pallbearers were: Tim Nichols, Keith Nichols, Ray Nichols, Mike Rowe, Kevin, Brown, and Edward Stroup. Banister Funeral Home of Young Harris, Georgia in charge of arrangements.
