Donald B. Nichols a lifelong resident of Glen Ellyn.
A memorial visitation for Donald B. Nichols, 76, will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at The Leonard Memorial Home, Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. He passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2004, from cancer. A graveside service and inurnment will be private at Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn. Don felt Glen Ellyn was the best town in the world to grow up in; he graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1946. He retired as vice president of Caldwell Banker Real Estate and was a former president of Glen Ellyn Rotary. A lifelong sportsman, he coached boys football and girls softball teams for many years and became and avid golfer after his retirement. Don had a coach's upbeat and encouraging attitude and lived life to its fullest. His wife Nancy always played her best game of golf with him. Don is survived by his wife, Nancy, with whom he shared 13 fun-filled, loving years; children, Allan (Cate) of Glen Ellyn, Sally (Jeff) Earll of Portland, Ore., Mindy (Hal Harpold) of Federal Way, Wash., and Marcy of Eugene, Ore; stepchildren, Ruth (Steve) McFarland, Julie (George) Michael and Robert (Mary) Cox; grandchildren, Megan, Max and Molly Nichols, Emily and Marisa Earll, and Adrian and Hana Harpold; step grandchildren, Andrew, Billy and Lauren; and his sister, Charlotte (Pudge) Barclay of San Jose, Calif. He also leaves behind many friends in Glen Ellyn and Cape Coral, Fla., where he wintered. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty (nee Moloney), in 1989.
