Checotah, OK-KARR, Johnie Mae, 75, died Thursday. Graveside services 10 a.m. Aug. 17, 2010, Greenlawn Cemetery, Hampton Mortuary.

Johnie Mae Karr, of Checotah, passed away August 12, 2010, in Muskogee at seventy five years of age. She was born in Checotah, OK on December 26, 1934, to John L. and Mary Jane (Sexton) Nichols. Johnie was a lifelong resident of Checotah and worked for more than 25 years at Checotah Nursing Home. She enjoyed working in her garden, fishing, baking and going to garage sales. Most of all she loved time spent with her family and friends and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Johnie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Gay, Howard and Royce Leon Nichols; and one sister, Alene Largent. She is survived by three daughters, Judy Nixon and her husband Johnny, Brenda Hatley and her husband Jesse, and Belinda Owens and her husband Dennis, all of Checotah; two sons, Christopher Karr and wife Kristie of Checotah, and Eric Hatley of the home; three sisters, Ruby Fairchild of Eufaula, Irene Macom of North Carolina, and Doris Bales of Tulsa; one brother, Vernon Nichols of Claremore; eleven grandchildren, Jeremy Hatley and wife Jamie of Beggs, Patricia Miller and husband Justin of Muskogee, Joshua Hatley of Checotah, Damian Comisky of Oklahoma City, April Coffey and husband Roger of Checotah, Zachary Karr of Checotah, Denise Owens of Checotah, and Mariah Karr of Checotah; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Wyatt, Brayden and Izzye Miller, Skylah and Kaden Karr, and Chloe Coffey; a special "sister", Irene Estep; and a host of extended family and friends. Graveside services for Johnie will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Greenlawn Cemetery with Margret Ashes officiating. Eric Hatley, Justin Miller, Christopher Karr, Richard Shelton, Jeremy Hatley and Mike Estep will serve as pallbearers.
