Mildred Batiste
(October 11, 1934 - April 21, 2012)

In the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is to be found a beloved wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Mildred "Sister Baby" Newton Batiste, 77, of Caldwell passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Burleson St. Joseph Hospital in Caldwell. She was born October 11, 1934 in Caldwell to Jasper "Buck" Newton and Agnes (Stredic) Newton.

She was a Baptist and worked for many years as a nurse's aid for many years. Mildred resided a few years in Odessa and McGregor and for over 20 years in Galveston before moving back to Caldwell with her husband, James in the early 70's to raise their sons.

Her Legacy is her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The activities of holding a new great grand baby were guaranteed to bring a smile to her face. She had a personal relationship and will walk with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Mildred was a Godly woman who was outgoing and friendly and loved to laugh. She brought joy to everyone she came in contact with and was fun to be around. Mildred was the biggest blessing to those who were lucky enough to have her touch their lives.

She is preceded in death by both parents: her husband, James "Boobie" Batiste; sons, Jimmie and Batiste; daughters, Betty and Linda Batiste; Brothers Willie and Clarence Newton and sisters, Corine Williams and Mary Pearce.

Those left to cherish her memory are sons Donnie Ray Batiste and wife, Patricia of Caldwell, Ronald "Red" Batiste and wife, Donna of Lexington and Gerald Wayne Batiste, Sr. of Dime Box; brothers, Isaiah Newton and Owen Newton both of Caldwell; sisters-in-law Rose Young and Carrie Finley both of Hitchcock;14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives Mildred will be forever missed until we see her again.

A wake will be held 6-8 pm Friday, April 27, 2012 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am Saturday April 28 at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.

Phillips & Luckey funeral Home of Caldwell is in charge of arrangements.
