Bennie R. Newton, 80, of Youngstown, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, at his home. He was born in Chapman, AL, and had lived in Bay County since 1968. Bennie served in the US Army during the Korean War, and retired from Civil Service at Tyndall Air Force Base. He enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR races and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Glen Newton in 2002. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Johnnie Newton of Youngstown; his children, Gary Newton of Callaway, Sandy Newton of Panama City, Regina Mixon (William) of Youngstown, and Tammy Hall of Sunny Hills; his brother, Dwayne Newton of Mobile, AL; sisters, Ramona Gordon and Shirley Newton, both of Mobile; 5 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Monday, May 9, 2011, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Rev. Craig Brannon officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, May 8, 2011, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
