ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Frederick Carter Newton Sr., 85, of Houston will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Newton died Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Houston hospital.
He was born Sept. 11, 1924, to James O. and Annie Rumple Newton in Rockdale. He married Patricia McBride on June 3, 1945, in Houston. He graduated from Rockdale High School in 1942 as valedictorian and president of his class. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1974 as a colonel after serving 31 years. He received his wings and commission in the Army Air Corps. After leaving the service, he worked with the Global Marine Drilling Co. for 20 years. He was a member of Emanuel Episcopal Church in Houston. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence R. Newton; and a daughter, Malinda A. Newton.
Survivors include his wife of Houston; two sons, Carter Newton Jr., of Tucson, Ariz., and Steve Newton of Houston; a daughter, Kimberly Newton of Los Angeles; and a grandchild.
