WINSTED — Armande (Bernard) Newfield passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010. She was the daughter of Desire and Anna Bernard and one of nine children. She was the loving wife of Arthur Newfield and a devoted mother to Norman Newfield and Linda (Newfield) Forster. She was born in Saint Lambert, Canada, in 1919.
She came to this country when she was 7 years old, in 1926. She became an American citizen alongside her mother in 1942 and they proudly cast their first votes as American citizens for Franklin D. Roosevelt. She was employed by the Stanadyne Corporation in Windsor, and worked there for 14 years as a quality control inspector. She then worked for the Refax Corporation for a number of years. Upon retiring, she attended Northwestern Connecticut Community College and studied oil painting. She excelled in her art classes and went on to create many exquisite oil paintings.
She leaves her two children, her favorite son-in-law, Joe Forster, her treasured "baby" sister, Gabrielle Bernard, many nephews and nieces, her beloved cats, Pearly and Shadow and her "grand-dogs", Sammy and Mouse-Mouse and Fred-Julio.
Her family will sorely miss her constant smile, quick wit and profound love. She was an eternal flame who brought constant light and warmth into the lives of all who knew her. Those of us, who had the great pleasure and honor to know and love this extraordinary woman, will carry the memory of her in our hearts and minds forever.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 10:30 a.m. from the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut Street, to St. Joseph Church for the funeral liturgy at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
