Tecumseh resident Bessie Newell, 92, died Wednesday, Mar. 30, in Shawnee.
She was born March 11,1913, in Joplin, Mo., to Edward R. and Mary A. (Bryson) Cooper.
She moved with her family from Joplin to a farm outside of Wanette at the age of 6.
She married Sept. 16, 1931, in Konawa to E.W."Whank" Newell. He proceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1980.
Newell and her husband farmed in the Wanette area for many years. She moved to Tecumseh in 2002. She was a Pottawatomie resident for 86 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Avoca Church of Christ and the Wanette Senior Citizens Center.
She was also proceded in death by her parents; one son, Charles Edward Newell; three brothers, Dudley David Cooper and Ralph Cooper; three sisters, Fleta Hickerson, Grace McPherson and Deverna Cooper.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bob Birks of Asher; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Donna Newell of Jefferson, Texas, and Eddie and Cheryl Newell of Shawnee; one sister, Beulah Snell of Stockton, Calif.; one brother, Richard Cooper of Modesto, Calif; five grandchildren and their spouses, Teresa and David Selman, Shelly and John Hannegan, Stacey andPaul J. Davis, Bryan and Kari Newell and Derek and Jessie Newell; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives.
Family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Avoca Church of Christ with the Rev. D.W. "Red" Barnes aooficiating. Burial will be at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
