Ollie M. Benson, age 88, of Watertown and formerly Goodwin, SD, passed away February 2, 2013 at Estelline Nursing & Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at St Martin's Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Reverend David Maertz officiating.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown, and Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Michelle Ronne, Emily Cramer, Lynette Richarz, Jeannean Barns, Lynnette Benson, Kimberly Benson, Lisa McIntire, Amber Sherman, Jessica Quam and Kandee Benson.
Pallbearers will be Randy Milton, John Milton, Mike Benson, Brian Benson, Steven Benson, Kevin Sherman, Mark Sherman and Gregory Benson.
Ollie Marie Benson was born on October 15, 1924 to Ezra and Minnie (Norenberg) Nevins in Lac qui Parle County, MN. She grew up in several communities in Minnesota and South Dakota, where she attended school.
On March 17, 1942 she married Arnold Benson in Madison, MN. Following this marriage, they farmed near Goodwin, SD and moved into Goodwin in 1969. Later Ollie and Arnold moved to Watertown in 1985. Ollie was a homemaker for many years before working at Minnesota Rubber in Watertown. Arnold Benson passed away on December 10, 2002.
Ollie was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, and Eagle's Lodge Auxiliary.
She enjoyed dancing, baking and cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Ollie is survived by her children, Allen (Shirley) Benson of Watertown, Lonnie (Jerry) Milton of Brandt, SD, LeRoy (Joyce) Benson of Watertown, Larry Benson of Goodwin, Jim (Jayne) Benson of Watertown, Emmie Lou (Ron) Sherman of Goodwin, and Tom Benson of Sioux Falls; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; her sister, Alvina Benson of Lake Tapps, WA; and her brother, Carl Nevins of Watertown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnold; one brother, Ruben Nevins; and her grandchildren, Aaron and April.
