|Birth: ||Feb. 14, 1821|
|Death: ||Nov. 17, 1905|
Mrs. Zeliah Neville, one of the city's pioneer residents and most highly respected women, passed away at 1:15 yesterday afternoon (November 17, 1905) at the home of his daughter, Miss Annie Neville, 195 Seventh street, from the infirmities of old age. She was in her 85th year and had been in failing health for several months. About six weeks ago she contracted a cold by venturing out to call on relatives, and this developed complications that hastened the end.
Mrs. Neville was born at Burgettstown, Washington county, Pa., Feb. 14, 1821, and her maiden name was Sebring. She moved to this city with her parents when quite a small girl and this has been her place of residence ever since. Her husband was Edward Neville who was one of the original salesmen of Rockingham and yellow ware in the infancy of the pottery industry in this city. He lived for many years in the old Samuel Kinsey property at the corner of Second and Market streets, which is now occupied by a grocery store. He died about 25 years ago and Mrs. Neville never remarried.
Mrs. Neville was a member of the First United Presbyterian church, and her life was an example of the teachings of the Man of Galilee. She was a woman who was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. In cases of sickness, it is said of her that she was in frequent demand, and no one was more attentive or willing to offer their services than she. She was in every way a Christian, and the influence of her beautiful life will long remain in the memory of those who knew her best.
She is survived by her daughter Annie, a grandson Robert Neville, living at the home of the deceased, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Douds, of Beaver, Pa., Mrs. Charlotte Archer, of Crinnell, Iowa, and one brother, George Sebring, father of the Sebring boys who resides with one of the sons at Sebring.
The funeral services will be held at the Neville home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the Rev. J. C. Taggart officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview cemetery
