Early Life: LaVerle was baptized by her father in the Greybull River in Wyoming. Her family moved to Pleasant Grove when she was young. LaVerle was a wonderful student and skipped one full grade of school.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: In 1941, LaVerle married Ernest LeRoy Makin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death August 2, 1969. She later married Orville Wayne Day in Provo, Utah and he preceded her in death on June 6, 2009. While married to Ernest, they bought and ran a dairy farm. After Ernest died she continued to run the dairy farm for two years while going back to BYU to finish her teaching degree that she started when she was a young girl. Graduating with a Special Education Degree, her first job was in St Anthony, Idaho; she drove home to P.G. every weekend. Following St. Anthony, she taught at Kamas High School and then at the Developmental Center in American Fork where she taught music therapy. She served as the Developmental Center ward organist, with Wayne as her assistant for over 20 years. Thanks to the staff of the Beehive Home American Fork South for their loving care, and all of the residents for their wonderful friendship and love for LaVerle.
