She was born June 17, 1902, in Erdahl, the daughter of Arne and Olena [Lena](Austinson) Ness. She spent her childhood years in Elbow Lake and graduated from Elbow Lake High School. She completed Normal School training and taught in rural schools.
On May 24, 1926, she married Sherwin Ackerson. They moved to Genesee Mountain in Colorado. Later, they moved to Elbow Lake, then to Paynesville. In the 1930s, they returned to the home farm in Erdahl Township. They retired in 1980, and moved to Elbow Lake. She had spent her last years at the Hoffman Good Samaritan Center. Mrs. Ackerson was a long-time member of the Erdahl Lutheran Church, where she served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher. She also served as president of the Church Ladies Aid for a number of years. After renewing her teaching certificate, she home-schooled a nephew in California.
She is survived by two daughters, Elfrida Strand of Elbow Lake and Eileen (Alden) Blixrud of St. Louis Park; one sister, Ruth (Mrs. Robert) Starner of Hoffman; six grandchildren, Virginia Smith, Christine (James) Erickson, Shelly (Tom) Chasten, Julia (Keith Russell) Blixrud, Craig (Susan) Blixrud and Wendy Fenske; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherwin; her parents, Arne and Olena Ness; three brothers, four sisters and one half-sister.
