Joanne Anderson, Fort Dodge, Iowa, died February 18, 2008 at Friendship Haven after a short illness.
Joanne Louise Nelson was born October 2, 1921 to Carl E. and Clara E. (Bedkar) Nelson in Chicago, Illinois. After high school she attended college at Northwestern University and North Park College in Chicago and graduated with a degree in elementary education from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Joanne married Paul Gordon Storm Anderson March 1, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. Shortly thereafter they moved to the Fort Dodge area where she remained until the time of her death. Her work outside the home included working at Sears Department Store and teaching in the Fort Dodge School System. She was a Foster Grandparent for over 16 years.
She is preceded in death by husband Paul; parents Carl & Clara, brother Carl, and sisters Marian and Virginia.
Joanne is survived by five children – Carol (William) Thatcher, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Thomas (Cathy) Anderson, Johnston, Iowa, Timothy (Deborah) Anderson, Humboldt, Iowa, Carl (Giselle) Anderson, Buena Park, California, and Mary Jo (Charles Jr.) Henry, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 11 grandchildren – Amy Thatcher, Scott (Duree) Thatcher, April Anderson, Andrew (Bonny) Anderson, Jeromy Anderson, Joshua (Jamie) Anderson, Adam ( Sarah) Anderson, Jason Anderson, Tyler (Kim Kelso) Presler, Eli Henry and Austin Henry and 8 great grandchildren – Lily and Charles Thatcher, Jasmin and Madison Anderson, Emma, Brody and Ellisa Anderson and Ayla Presler.
Joey's life was enriched by the years of fellowship and support as a life long member of the First Covenant Church. She was an avid reader and treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren. Her family learned the love of Christ from her example and she will be missed by all.
Services will be held on Thursday February 21 at Friendship Haven Celebration Center at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ron Kitterman officiating. Family invites friends to join them for a luncheon and fellowship at 11:30 am prior to the service. A family graveside interment will be held at North Lawn Cemetery following the service.
