Darlene E. Allendorf, 75, of 1200 S. Grandview Ave., died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, in Regina Caeli Chapel in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St.
She was born on Jan. 31, 1933, in Dubuque, daughter of Oscar and Esther (Vorwald) Nelson.
She married William F. Allendorf on Jan. 30, 1950; he preceded her in death on Dec. 31,1994.
Darlene and William owned and operated the St. George Hotel and The Iowa Inn.
She was a past senior regent of the Women of the Moose and past president of the Amvets Auxiliary. She was a member of many bowling teams. Darlene and Bill loved to golf and were members of the Galena Golf and Country Club. She most recently was an avid slot player at Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino.
Darlene was a very generous person who loved to cook for everyone.
Surviving are her children, Michael (Marilyn) Allendorf, Linda (Bob) Flannery, Mark (Wendy) Allendorf, Kimberley (Guy) Harrell, Jr., Kristy Brosnan and Scott Allendorf; brothers and sister, Jeanette (Dave) Elgin, Leroy (Ginny) Nelson and Tom Nelson; her grandchildren, Jeff, Carrie, Phil, Tara, Wayne, Shane, Brian, Nicholas, Andy, Jolene, Annie, Daniel and Vanessa; and eight great-grandchildren.
