Cynthia was born on November 4, 1948 in Shreveport, LA and grew up in Bossier City, LA. She graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA and was a lifelong educator and speech therapist with Caddo Parish Schools and Little Works in Progress in Shreveport.

Cynthia was reunited in heaven with her parents, Milton Ashford Nelson and Eunetta Bowman Nelson. She is survived by family and friends who each had a special place in her heart and were called a special name from her lips. She was "Madre" to Allison Sheffield Davis and husband, Jeff Davis (Baton Rouge), "The Gran" to Lanie Grace Davis and Mollie Claire Davis, "Olieve" (sister) to Milton Ashford "Bud" Nelson, Jr (Shreveport) and Clyde Bradford "Brad" Nelson (Haughton), "Sister-In-Law" to Linda Nelson and Tracy Nelson, "Auntie" to Lynda Thompson, Jeremy Nelson, Michael Nelson, Ashlea Nelson, Colton Alford and Bailey Nelson, "Cousin" to many, "Girl" to Linda Alagood and "Girlfriend" to many others.

Cynthia's greatest gift to this world was her gift of gab and no subject was off limits. If you knew her you had a nickname. She lived to love and serve her family, friends, and strangers. She went out of her way to do good and be good to others. She made others laugh and her heart ached for the hurt of others and their disappointments.

Cynthia loved God and it gave her great pleasure to spread his word to others. She loved her coffee (aka "hot cup"), decorating for all the holidays, Christmas Eve, flip flops, snowmen, giving and receiving presents, and Saturday nights with her best friend, "Girl".

Cynthia was a gift to special needs children. She made sure that every child was pushed to be their best and never gave up on any of them. She cared for all of her children in a way nobody else could care for them with a wealth of understanding, knowledge, and experience. Her education was her qualification, but the love, time, and dedication she gave each child is what made her a top notch speech pathologist and educator.

It's hard to be a mom, but she made me want nothing more in life than to be one. She made being a mom easier with her encouragement and never ending love. If no one else noticed my hard work she was the one that did. She was proud of me and loved me when I was the hardest to love. She was a proud mom, but an even prouder Gran. To Lanie, Gran had magical powers that could fix almost anything. "The Gran" spent hours playing with bubbles, sand, paint, and sneaking treats to her "Gran's Grace". She was the only person who enjoyed changing a poop diaper. This was her favorite time to gab with her grandbabies and make their eyes dance with joy and excitement. She said Lanie's first word was going to be "Ribbit" and it was. She had already told me Mollie's first word will be "Lanie" and I bet it will be.

The phrases "Go Girl" and "Now, tell me one more time" will always be hers. Her personality and the stories that she told were bigger than the sky; those memories will give us laughter and joy in our future.

Honoring Cynthia as pallbearers will be: Michael Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Marvin Bumgardner, Bryan Dumas, Jerry Hunt and Brian McRae.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital in honor of Cynthia.
