Blanche E. Kirby, age 80 years, of Newton, Illinois and formerly of Gary, Indiana passed away at 9:58 A.M., on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, Illinois.

Blanche was born on March 19, 1926 in Newton, Illinois the daughter of Norman and Marie Bower Neese. On August 1, 1945, she married Harry "Benny" Kirby and he preceded her in death on August 19, 1996.

Blanche worked in the chemical lab for U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana during the war years. After marrying, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Chapel of the Dunes in Gary, Indiana and active in the Chapel Guild. Together with her children, she was active in The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, serving as a leader for over twenty years. She was also active in the National Campers and Hikers Association. After returning to Newton, Illinois in 1980, she became an active part of the congregation at the Grace United Methodist Church. There, she took part in the United Methodist Women and the Crusaders Sunday School Class.

Blanche will be loved and remembered by her son, Norman Benson Kirby and wife Diane of Dayton, Texas; daughters, Katherine M. "Kit" Mikrut and her husband Norman and Brenda Detert and her husband Garry, both of Valparaiso, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Amber Mikrut of Valparaiso, Norma Lynn Kirby of Highland, TX, Bethany Kirby of Shepherd, TX, Krystal Rogers and her husband, Chris of Dayton, TX, Richard Kirby and his wife Maritza of Santa Fe, Texas, Diana Higgins and Thomas of Katy, TX, Joseph Kirby and his wife Cindy of Pasenda, TX, PFC Christopher Detert of Ft. Bragg, Bradley Detert and Katelyn Detert of Valparaiso; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband, one son, Ricky Kirby and brother, George Neese preceded her in death.

The Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Frank Ogdon officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service in the Church. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton, Illinois.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
