Herman Lee "H.L." Neely Jr., 84, formerly of Duncan, died Monday, March 23, 2009, at Magnolia Manor, Spartanburg, S.C.
A native of Anderson County, he was the son of the late Herman Lee and Nell Dowes Neely Sr., a member of Abner Creek Baptist Church, a retired employee of Kendell and a World War II Army Veteran, having received five Battle Stars and also served during the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Neely was survived by his wife of 62 years, Laura Smith Neely of Spartanburg; three brothers, Gordon Neely of Pelzer, Bob Neely of Belton and Jim Neely of Williamston.
He was predeceased by a brother, Joe Neely; and a sister, Evelyn Bryant.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Abner Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Vernon Thornhill Jr. with military rites.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abner Creek Baptist Church, 2461 Abner Creek Road, Greer, S.C. 29651.
