Born at home on March 3, 1920, at 524 West York Street, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, this twin boy and his brother only lived two hours and died on March 4, 1920. The cause of death is listed as "congenital disability." (Could they have been conjoined twins?) They were the first-born children of Joseph Bowden Neely, Sr. and Nettie Donnie King Neely Riley. After the twins' death, two brothers, Joe and Robbie, were born. While the twins' death certificate and cemetery records refer to one child, their mother always talked of the twin boys. They are buried in the "Baby Land" area at Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah. Rest in peace. His ancestry was Irish, French, English, and--through the Sarvis surname--coastal Carolina Native American. I wish there was a photo of this child.
Thanks so much to his mother Nettie King Neely Riley for so much of this information. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions.
