TUSCALOOSA Iola Crummie, age 98, of Tuscaloosa, died June 5, 2008, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Northport with George Washington, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Oak Memorial Park with Wills' Funeral Service, Inc., directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.
On April 24, 1910, in Northport, Ala., Iola Neal was born to the late John and Patsy Neal. As a lifelong Christian, mother, and friend, she transitioned from earth on June 5, 2008, to live with her Heavenly Father.
She received her early education in the Tuscaloosa County Public School System and received a scholarship to Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama. As a Christian Educator for over 60 years, she touched the lives of countless children.
She was born into First Baptist Church, confessed Christ at the age of six, and worked untiringly for over 90 years in several capacities to build God's Kingdom. She was chairperson of circle number 2, Secretary of the Sunday School, Vice President of the Missionary Society, a member of the church choir for over 75 years, and deaconess for over 60 years.
She was married March 26, 1929, to Mr. Ardie Crummie until his death, and to this union three children were born. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Mrs. Juanita Clements; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives.
