Mary W. "Winnie" Amato, 79, of Creston, went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, following a lengthy illness.
Winnie was born on July 16, 1932, in Akron, to Sheldon and Zita Sharp Nagle. She graduated from North High School in Akron, and was married to her high school sweetheart, Joseph Amato, for over 61 years, and was greatly loved by her family.
Winnie was a very active woman. She was a seemstress, an avid gardener and a member of Sterling Grace Brethren Church. She had been a secretary for the Cuyahoga Falls and Medina County school systems. She co-founded Birth Care of Medina, and was also a founder of the Medina Organic Gardening Club. Winnie was a secretary for the OYAP Foster Care Program, also a Sunday School Superintendent of Medina Assembly of God, and a writer of many poems and news articles.
Along with her husband, Winnie is survived by three daughters, Jeanne (Lee) Hames, Margie (Dale) Crutchfield and Patricia DeArment; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jeanne Paulus and Kathleen (Bob) Okolish.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Norma Nagle.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Sterling Grace Brethren Church, 14960 Seville Rd., Sterling, with Pastor Jim Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Congress Cemetery in Congress.
Custer-Glenn Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
