MRS. B. K. BARBOUR IS KILLED
Dies Instantly from Injuries Caused in Automobile Accident.
A sad fatal accident occurred near the Michigan Central crossing cast of Augusta about ten o’clock Tuesday evening in which Mrs. B. K. Barbour was instantly killed. Mr. Barbour is proprietor of the garage on the Galesburg-Camp Custer road, south of Augusta. He and Mrs. Barbour were on their way from their home to the village in their service car and on approaching the railroad crossing saw the signal lights announcing the approach of a train. They were traveling at a fairly rapid speed and at first thought they had plenty of time to cross, but changed their minds and suddenly applied the brakes while making the curve just east of the track. The strain was too much and the rear wheel went down and the car overturned, crushing Mrs. Barbour beneath it. Mr. Barbour was somewhat injured, but not caught in the wreck. He found it impossible to get his wife from under the car, and he hurried to the village for help. Leon Drew and Milton Godde from Drew’s garage, responded to the call and with their service car lifted the wrecked machine from the lifeless form of Mrs. Barbour. The men placed the body in the car, not knowing whether life was extinct or not, and hurried to Dr. L. A. Wardell’s residence. There was no evidence of life, and the doctor advised that the nature of her injuries probably caused instant death. Mrs. Barbour was 28 years old. Her maiden name was Anna Myers, and her home was in Galesburg at the time of her marriage to Mr. Barbour on December 15, 1925. She leaves her parents, who reside in Shultz, two brothers, Don Myers of Florida, who is on his way here, and Rex, who resided in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Barbour. The funeral will be held at the residence Saturday afternoon at two o'clock slow time. Burial will be made in Galesburg.
