MYERS, BARBARA (EABY) -- Mrs. Barbara Myers died April 19, 1910 at the home of her son, C.A. Myers, in Monroe Township, Clarion County, aged 95 years, 3 months and 5 days. She was the daughter of Isaac and Mary Eaby and was born January 15, 1815 at the Compass, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, where she grew into womanhood. She was the last survivor of a family consisting of 4 brothers and 4 sisters of which she was the second in age. On October 13, 1836, she was married to Abner Myers of Lancaster County, and with her husband traveled overland and settled in Clarion county in May 1847, upon a farm purchased from Judge Christian Myers, and upon this farm she ever afterwards made her home. Mrs. Myers reared a family of 9 boys and 1 girl. At the outbreak of the Civil War the 3 oldest sons offered their services in defense of their country and were enlisted in the Union Army. Wm. H. was killed in the battle of Gettysburg; John E. lost his life in the Wilderness Campaign; and Stephen, though wounded, survived the conflict, but died some years after the close of the war. There still survive 5 sons and one daughter: Mrs. Katherine Buchanan, of Buffalo, N.Y.; Clarence, Abner, and Amos, of near Sligo, this county; Isaac of Butler, Pa.; and George M., of Clarion. There were born in her lifetime 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, most of whom are still living. "Grandmother" Myers, as she was familiarly known throughout the neighborhood, was a woman of kindly disposition and Christian character. Though burdened with the weight of many years, her general health remained good and her mind clear, until her last illness. Funeral services were held at the home of Abner E. Myers, conducted by Rev. Dr. J.M. McCurdy, her pastor of many years, assisted by Rev. Fervor, of the Licking Presbyterian Church and Rev. Bittinger of the Sligo Presbyterian Church. Interment was made in the Sligo cemetery.
