Jennie Lou Hardy
Jennie Lou Hardy, 79, of Elgin, died Feb. 19 at her home with her family present. Her memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elgin Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Lou was born Nov. 5, 1932, in La Grande. Her parents were Farrell Garrett Murray and Lorena Ladd (Wood) Murray. She grew up in the Grande Ronde Valley and graduated from Union High School in 1950.
She married Lawrence "Ross" Hardy on Feb. 13, 1953, and they became the parents of three children.
In addition to her responsibilities at home, Lou was employed as a secretary at various businesses in the area, including the telephone office, the courthouse and the college. She enjoyed cooking, hunting and fishing. She was an avid "garage saler." She loved spending time with her family.
Lou was a former member of the community women's service club, Pythian Sisters, and Stampeders. She had been serving on the county election board and was secretary of the Elgin Ward Relief Society.
Lou is survived by three children, Lou Ann (Ted) Thamert of Elgin, Duane (Joy) Hardy of Elgin and Susan Hardy of Elgin; sisters-in-law, Barbara Murray and Donna Murray; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Betty Knapp; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence "Ross" Hardy; her parents, Farrell and Lorena; two brothers, Otis Murray and Verner Murray; and great-granddaughter, Kiah Schmittle.
