ANN MURRAY MILLER
1925 - 2010

On November 11, 2010, Ann Murray Miller, 85, died peacefully at home at The Fairfax, a retirement community in Fairfax County, Va. where she had lived since October 2005. Beloved widow of William Francis Miller, a Foreign Service Officer, she accompanied him to postings in Japan, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Pakistan, raising their five children along the way. Ann acted on her belief in social justice through her volunteer service in posts abroad. She was born in Ironton, Ohio on October 21, 1925 and graduated from Ohio University in 1947. A devout parishioner of the Ft. Belvoir Catholic community for almost forty years, Mrs. Miller was also active in the Catholic Women's Club; the Flower Guild and Garden Club, helping to create beautiful altar arrangements; DACOR (Diplomatic and Consular Officers Retired) and Public Diplomacy Alumni Association. Her diverse life was filled with faith and graceful enthusiasm. She touched many with her zest for life.

Predeceased by her son, William Murray Miller, she is survived by her children: Mary Ellen Holt of Miami, FL, Peter Miller of Alexandria, VA Patrick Miller of Alexandria and Kate Haselby of Arlington; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many devoted nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on November 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Chapel Fort Belvoir with interment at Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington, DC in the DACOR section, where she will rest in eternity with her husband and eldest son. A reception to honor and celebrate Ann's life will be held at The Fairfax afterwards.

Church member, Ann M. Miller, 85, a member of Woodlawn Chapel at Fort Belvoir, died Nov. 11 at her home in Fairfax County. She had lung cancer.

Mrs. Miller moved to the Washington area during the late 1940s and was an administrative assistant for the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.

She was born Ann Sarah Murray in Ironton, Ohio, and received a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1947 from Ohio University.

She traveled overseas with her husband while he served in the Foreign Service. She was a member of Diplomatic and Consular Officers Retired.

Her husband of 48 years, William F. Miller, died in 1995. A son, William M. Miller, died in 1993.

Survivors include four children, Mary Ellen Holt of Miami, Peter Miller and Patrick Miller, both of Alexandria, and Kate Haselby of Arlington County; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
