Helen graduated from Mooreland High School, then attended several colleges, receiving her bachelors from Northwestern State and her Masters from the University of Tulsa. She taught at several schools in several counties, mainly in Putnam City Schools, where she received the Teacher of the Year Award in 1972. She retired from teaching in 1978.

Helen served as President of the Windsor Hills State Association of Classroom Teachers. She was involved in many organizations including: OK Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, KKI Beta Pi Conclave, Putnam City Benevolent Association, OEA, Tu'Ya Chapter, Women's Dinner Club, NEA State district conventions, and American Business Women.

Helen was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She resided many years at Lackey Manor Nursing Home living with Alzheimer's.
