Velma M. (Murphy) Adamson was born on Friday; January 31, 1908 in Murphy; Jasper County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Bower and Edith (Blackwood) Murphy. Velma grew up in Newton and moved to Des Moines in the 1950s. She moved back to Newton in 2000. She was united in marriage to Victor E. Adamson. After graduating from Newton High School in 1926, Velma worked at the Cross and Hamil Law Firm in Newton. She later was a proofreader for the Wallace Farmer Magazine in Des Moines. She served as the secretary for the Typographical Union until the age of 93. She traveled across the country to attend national meetings for the union. Velma enjoyed doing genealogical research on her family. Velma M. (Murphy) Adamson, age 99, of Newton, Iowa and formerly of Des Moines; Polk County, Iowa passed away on Tuesday; November 6, 2007, at the Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her sister: Wilma R. Rorabaugh of Newton, Iowa. Also many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Victor E. Adamson in 1968; three brothers: Lauren, Wayne and Merril Murphy. Also two sisters: Cleora Wood and Ilah Coil.* May they rest in peace. The family will greet friends from: 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday; November 09, 2007 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 11:00 a.m. on Friday; November 9, 2007 at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service on Friday; November 09, 2007 at the Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
