Angela Bernice Murphy was born Nov. 14, 1914, to Patrick Francis and Harriet DeSales (O'Connor) Murphy. She was born in Donahue, Iowa, on the O'Connor Family Farm. She married John "Gerald" Britt in November 1934. He died March 16, 1965. She was a member of the church.
"Bea" had an absolute passion for life involving her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a "take charge" attitude that many of us are very thankful for. She had a special touch with children, and had assisted many families in raising their children. She was very proud of her Irish heritage, and her smiling eyes will be missed by all. She enjoyed telephone conversations with her family and many friends and was famous for her quick wit, timely jokes and stories of times passed. She undoubtedly was the best baker the Quad-Cities has ever seen. I'm not sure how we'll survive without her chocolate chip cookies and chocolate sheet cakes.
Memorials can be made to the church or Assumption High School.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Lawrence "Larry" and Judy Britt, Davenport, Rita and Joseph O'Brien, Sherborn, Mass., and Gerald "Jerry" and Marty Britt, Geneseo, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Richard Leese, Davenport; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jackie Murphy, Rock Island.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Veronica, Eileen and Carmella; and a brother, Wylie. May they rest in peace. She truly will be missed by all.
