Betty was born November 28, 1921 in Alhambra, California to Effie and Homer Risden.
She graduated from Washington High School in Los Angeles in 1939, and later entered the advertising field, where she became one of the first female media directors in the area.
After nearly forty years in advertising, Betty retired and moved from the Pasadena area to Palm Desert, where she became active in a array of community activities, such as helping to found the Children's Museum of the Desert, serving as Vice President of the Eisenhower Hospital's Auxiliary and Collector's Corner, and being a board member of the Desert Symphony.
In 1991, Betty moved with her daughter and son-in-law to Santa Barbara, where she continued her volunteer work with Cottage Hospital, and becoming active in a variety of other community organizations.
When the family moved to Lafayette, CA in 1995, Betty became a volunteer at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, where she served for over 10 years. Betty gave much to her community, and touched more lives than she ever knew. She will be remembered for her twinkling blue eyes, quick wit, intelligence, and love of life. We will miss her!
Betty is survived by her son, Gerald, daughter-in-law, Carolyn, of Dana Point; her daughter, Geri Murphy, son-in-law, Hal Johansing, of Lafayette; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private interment services will be held at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
