Cumberland County

Death: Oct. 30, 1872
Crockett

Texas, USA

In the year 1852, six years after the death of her husband, Archibald Baker, Mary (Murchison) Baker sold her home in McNairy County, Tennessee, and with her two children and their worldly goods in a covered wagon, moved to Houston County, Texas. She joined her brothers, John, Daniel and Kenneth Murchison, who had preceeded her, and purchased a farm near them in the area known in Houston County as Cook's Mountain. The two children were: Lucy Catherine and Murdock MacIntosh Baker. In 1855, Mary Baker and brothers and her children were successful in operating the farm, which continued through three generations until it was sold, circa 1940. At her death, she was buried in the South section of Glenwood Cemetery on the lot of her brother Daniel Murchison. Mary and Archibald Baker married 5 June 1834 in Tennessee.
