Oct 21, 1908 - The Democrat - Mrs. Catherine Adrian died at her home in this city early Thursday morning after an illness of some duration. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon. Services were conducted at the Congregational church. The burial was in Evergreen cemetery. There was a large procession. The pall bearers were Geo. B. McCarty, F. Freeman, W.G. Henry, J.H. Hinkley, D. Starr, and D.W. Darland.
Catherine Munch was born at Oberroshhaugh, Germany, October 12, 1834. She came to the United States when 18 years of age. She lived in New York for a year, after which she moved to Cassville, Wisconsin. She was married at the latter named place to Sebastian Adrian December 7, 1857. Ten sons and daughters were born to the union. Three are living. They are Charles Adrian, Mrs. J.E. Ellis, and Mrs. Herman Eckert. The latter lives in Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Adrian came to Emmetsburg 31 years ago. Five years later Mr. Adrian died.
The career of this widely known Christian wife and mother, who has just been called to her eternal reward, was in many ways, a most meritorious one. It was spent in the cherishing of hopes and in the performance of deeds that, in every day life, give inestimable value to the aspirations, the sentiments, the sacrifices of true womanhood. Humbly, lovingly, devotedly she discharged her many and oft-times exacting duties in the household in which she spent so many blissful days and in which were centered her sweetest cares, her greatest anxieties, her unceasing solicitude.
The memory of her patience, her mildness, her kindness, and her solacing affection must be ever linked with the most hallowed associations in the hearts of those who knew her by one of the sweetest of names familiar to human lips, during her many and useful years spent in Emmetsburg she enjoyed the highest esteem of all who knew her and she passed away in the full possession of the honors that she had so justly earned. The sympathy of our entire community is exended to the surviving members of the family.
