Mildred Irene Kollars Burress of Zionsville, formerly of Lebanon and Lima, Ohio, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital in Indianapolis. She was 94.
She was born Jan. 20, 1911, in Warsaw to Minnie and Peter Mumma; they preceded her in death.
She married Howard Kollars of Lima in February of 1930; he preceded her in death. She married R. Oran Burress of Lebanon in 1976, after she retired; he also preceded her in death.
She grew up in Lebanon and moved with her family to Lima, Ohio, where she graduated from Central High School. During World War II, she oversaw several government daycare nurseries provided for working mothers. She then became comptroller for the Leader Department Store, which is now Elder-Beerman in Lima.
She was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary, and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization of Lima.
She had a good sense of humor and enjoyed watching baseball and football on television, doing word puzzles, fishing, keeping up with current events and reading.
Survivors include daughter Virginia (Keven) Henkaline of Zionsville; grandchildren Jeff Henkaline of Minooka, Ill., Kim Henkaline of Carmel, Nancy Vinson of Oakwood, Ill., Cindy Simpson of Gardnerville, Nev., and Heidi Blair of Hutto, Texas; sisters Betty Wieser of Lima, JoAnn Rhoades of Lima, Mary Joe Warren of California and Pat Price of Indianapolis; and 18 great-grandchildren, including Dustin, Shannon and Ryan Henkaline, Cassie and Christian Rutan, Tiffany and Nicholas Vinson, Whitney, Josiah, Jeremiah, Matthew, Abigail and Grace Simpson, Adam and Luke Hamilton and Keven Blair. Surviving family of Oran Burress include daughter Fran (Sissy) Roush Johnson of Iowa, daughter-in-law June Burress of Lebanon; grandchildren Steve, Kenny, Larry, Gary and Hank Burress, Mike, David and Mark Roush, Marcia Ehler, Phyllis Downey, Cheryl Morton and Libby Whiteman; 26 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by brothers Bill, Sam and Jack Mumma and stepson Russ Burress.
Services were Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Center in Zionsville. The Rev. Gene Johnson officiated. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon followed.
