BELLOWS FALLS - Jane Elizabeth Hallock, 83, died Jan. 16, 2012.
Born Sept. 26, 1928, the daughter of Earll and Helen Mumby, she grew up in Shortsville, N.Y., and went to work in a factory at age 11 to help her widowed mother support the family.
She attended Harper Method School of Beauty in Rochester, N.Y.
She married Horace Holden on Nov. 9, 1946, and Paul Hallock in 1970.
Mrs. Hallock opened her own beauty shop in the late 1950s in Chester. In Bellows Falls, she worked for Joe Lyons and John Moisis as a hairdresser. In Wilmington, she was employed as a park ranger for the state of Vermont. She finished her working career as a live-in caretaker in various Rochester, N.Y., area homes.
She was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Churchill, of Fairmont, N.Y.; four children, Jean Holden, of Quechee, Mark Holden, of Middletown, Del., Earll Holden, of Claremont, N.H., and Jeff Holden, of Chester; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
The memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Palmyra, N.Y., at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
