B F Mulhollan Obit - FORMER BRANDON RESIDENT PASSES AT HOME IN MORTON FRIDAY - CONFEDERATE VETERAN, WIDLEY KNOWN CITIZEN GOES TO REST. HAD MANY FRIENDS IN RANKIN COUNTY. INTERMENT HERE SATURDAY.
B F MULHOLLAN,89, former resident of Brandon, and one of this section's most prominent and highly esteemed citizens, passed away Friday at the home of his step-brother, Jessie Shields* in Morton, following an illness of several weeks duration.
Mr Mulhollan, "Uncle Doc" as he was lovingly and familiarly known to his countless friends throughout Rankin County, was born and reared at Fannin, where he spent his early youth, later moving to Brandon to engage in the mercantile business with his brother. For years he contined in business here, and during that time was identifed with the leading interest of town and county, in church, school and civic activities.
He valiantly served the Confederacy in the War between the States, and since the War has been prominent in veteran activies, serving for a number of years on the County Pension Broard, and otherwise taking part in furthering the cause of the United Confederate Veterans organization. He was married to Miss Laura Shields, who was his congenial companion and helpmeet through the years. Her death about one year ago brought him untold grief, and in a large measure hastened his passing. They had no children.
Mr. Mulhollan was a man of courage, as was evidenced in the tragedy which befell him a few years ago when he lost both legs in a railway acciden at Morton. He faced the loss with rare fortitude, which no doubt speeded his recovery, and in a short period of time he resumed his usual life, never complaining of his great misfortune.
In addition to three brother, John E and George W Mulhollan of Texas and Will Mulhollan of california, he is survived by three step-brothers, Jessie Shield, of Morton, Ira Shields of Louisiana and Dick Shields of Pelahatchie. *
Funeral services were held Saturday morning in Morton, and were conducted by the pastor of the Baptist Church, of which Mr. Mulhollan was a devout member.
The body was brought overland to Brandon and interred in the family plot in Brandon cemetery, beside his wife. Numerous and beautiful floral offerings bespeak the high esteem in which the deceased was held.
