Margaret was the 2nd daughter (and 5th of 8 children) of Patrick Muldoon (of Belfast, Ireland) and Margaret Mills (of Ireland). Patrick and Margaret emigrated to Canada during the dread potato famine years, probably arriving in Quebec, Canada.
The Muldoon family unit moved eventually to Huron county, Ontario to an area known as "Irishtown" in McKillop Twp.
Before that had happened, however, young Margaret met an immigrant woollen manufacturer and Scotsman, William Adam Dobson, in the area outlying Guelph, Ontario. Margaret was Irish Catholic, but they agreed to be married in Guelph at Knox Church by a minister of Adam's religious affiliation, the Presbyterian Church (ie. the Church of Scotland).
Later on it appears Adam converted to Roman Catholicism as a number of their children were christened at St. Columban's in "Irishtown".
They for a while thereafter started their family in Pickering Twp. in Ontario county, but by 1862 were in McKillop Twp. in Huron county.
They had 10 children total in Canada, before moving in about 1873 to Delaware Twp, Sanilac county, Michigan, thus in their short experiences being citizens of 3 countries.
Their children were:
1. Mary Agnes, b.1853 (Mrs. Longworth)
2. William John, b.ca.1854
3. Margaret, b.ca.1855
4. James, b.1857
5. Elizabeth Isabella, b.1858
6. Patrick, b.1861
7. Adam, b.1862
8. Joseph, b.1866
9. Thomas, b.1869
10. Francis, b.1871
(Most all of these reached maturity and had families and their descendants in Michigan.)
A 40 acre farm became their home in Delaware Twp. and the sons and daughters slowly married and moved away. Her husband Adam died in the winter in January 1884, leaving Margaret with the youngest 4 sons - Adam, Joseph, Thomas, and Francis - to help with the farm.
She eventually (after about 1894) moved up to Kinde in Huron county to live with her son Adam who had established a good farming operation, and could use help with raising his growing family.
It was there she lived the remainder of her days, enjoying her new grandchildren and imparting the wisdom of a varied life.
Her descendants are many and widespread across our country and world...
