Della Cummings, 96, of Pilot Rock, Ore., and a former resident of Troy and the Yaak, died on Nov. 14, 2003, at the home of her daughter.
She was born on June 18, 1907, at Great Falls, to Charles and Grace Moy. On Dec. 24, 1927, she married Carl Cummings of Colville, Wash.
Della had worked as a camp cook in Washington, Idaho and Oregon logging camps. Later, when her husband started his own sawmill in the Yaak, Della stayed home to care for their six children.
The Cummings family moved to Pendleton, Ore., in 1963 and Della worked as a logging camp cook in the Ukiah area.
She also loved music and poetry, taught herself to play the violin and harmonica and published several poems.
Della was a member of the Pilot Rock Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; sons Eugene and Kenneth; daughter Ila; grandson Marty Erice, and sisters Alice Moy and Phyllis Nunally.
Survivors include sister Mable Vance, 98, of Wenatchee, Wash.; daughters Jean Perkins, Pendleton, Carolyn Erice and her husband Juan, Pilot Rock, and Grace Jordan and her husband Gene, Weston Mountain, Ore.; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Arrangements were under direction of the Bishop Funeral Chapel in Pendleton.
